In October of 1983, Rev. Frank Henderson, Jr. was called to lead this congregation to greater heights. Pastor Henderson and his teammate Sis. Dorothy Henderson began the mission of making Southern Crest Missionary Baptist Church a church. They began with the motto “A Church Where Everybody is somebody”. With this statement as our mission, the healing and building process began.
Through his vision, Southern Crest Missionary Baptist Church expanded in all areas of ministry. Throughout the years the dreams continued to expand, the borders were enlarged, many unbelievers were called to repentance, and over five thousand hungry souls walked through our doors and gave their lives to Christ. Food pantry, clothing pantry, and hope kitchen became available serving the community with free hot meals and free clothing every day. Members and friends throughout the community and the city of Dallas watched as Christian Education was at the core of our growth. As the membership grew so rapidly, building expansion became necessary. We renovated as much as we could until we couldn’t anymore. We began purchasing property adjacent to our facility until we had purchased the entire block of the 2300 block of Locust Ave. and most of Custer Ave.
In October of 1997, we joyfully marched into our new worship center. As the Lord would have it, we the church continued to grow spiritually and numerically. The building we finished in 1997 by the year 2002 had become too small. In 2003 we began construction again, and our present worship center was completed in October 2004.
In August of 2004, the spirit of the Lord moved once again on our Pastor. Out of this vision, the pastor founded the Southern Crest Full Gospel Baptist Church and became its first pastor. Pastor Frank Henderson Jr. served as the first pastor of the Southern Crest Full Gospel Church until his retirement in June of 2017. The visions and dreams will continue, and you will continue writing the history of a loving church where “Everybody is Somebody.”
